Notice to Visiting Groups

Magdalen welcomes visitors throughout the year. As a busy and lively working academic community we like to ensure that everyone whether as a member of group, or a single visitor will enjoy their visit.

We do this by making the College accessible at regular times of the day and with particular facilities open for you to see. The principal areas of the College that are normally open are the Hall, Chapel and Old Kitchen Bar. In addition the gardens, grounds and parkland, including the water walks beside the River Cherwell are open. The Deer Park can be viewed from the path.

We do request that visiting groups respect the surroundings, and recognise that the college is a place of study throughout the year. In particular groups of young visitors are requested to respect the following.

No walking on the lawns

No sitting in groups in quads or ante-chapel

No eating or drinking within the grounds, except for items purchased and consumed within the Old Kitchen Bar

No littering, please use the waste bins provided

No ball games, or throwing of objects

No shouting or unnecessary noise

It is expected that each group of young people will be closely supervised by an adult, who will be responsible for controlling the behaviour of the group, which will stay together. Inappropriate behaviour may affect future bookings by the same organisation.

The college reserves the right to request disrespectful visitors to leave the grounds without refund.
